An Urge for Hot Dogs

Steve Ewing, the frontman of the Urge (a local alternative rock band that had hits like Jump Right In) has another business, a wonderful hot dog stand in the Hill.  It had been awhile since I had visited this place but having just returned from a week of healthy dining in San Diego, I had a hankering for a hot dog.  Steve serves inspired creations with homemade hot sauces (some of which are mind numbingly hot- one called mindless) along with cheeseburgers and mac-n-cheese.  The Molotov dog is a fun one to try if you like spice.  It has a homemade habanero sauce, sriracha, spicy relish, onions, and jalapenos.  Steve has an eye for the details like the option of getting chipotle onions, for instance, or the fact that they smoke all of their hot dogs in house using a blend of cherry wood and apple wood.  The burgers are also smoked and have a great flavor (yes, I did eat a hot dog and a burger in one sitting- I did it for you guys).  If you didn't already know, after having these dogs you'll have to admit that Steve really is a rock star.
